ARTIFICIAL OLFACTOMETRIC SYSTEM

The LibraNOSE

Electronic nose structure derives from that of mammalian olfactory system, and can be divided into three differents parts: the identification system, the pattern recognition system the sampling system with the matrix of sensors. The sampling system makes easy the collection and enrichment of vapour samples, the matrix of sensors, is based on several chemical sensors not specific for a single odour, that allow the recognition of a pattern of signals typical for each chemical volatile compounds (left).

Technobiochip’s LibraNOSE 2.1 and 3.0 use oscillating quartzes coated by polimeric films (the sensor). Polimer tends to adsorb some gases, and thus the sensor mass changes resulting in a quartz oscillation frequency shift.
Polimers employed by Technobiochip are several types of metallo-porphyrines and pirrolic polimers, covered by a Technobiochip patent.
Polimers are deposited by “Langmuir-Blodgett” and “Langmuir-Shaeffer” methods, whose Technobiochip has a service facility.
